Pace High School, led by Rebecca Belveal, took home both 1st place championships for junior varsity and varsity. This competition was a one-day event where junior varsity competed for the title and varsity for a chance to go the world championships. Over 120 color guards from across the world will be competing in this competition April 13-15th in Dayton, Ohio. Despite the long length of the circuit championships the spotlight shone the brightest on the Pace high color guard.

This was the competition that marked the end of junior varsities season of the 2022- 2023 school year. Over the day-long competition, Pace’s JV guard scored 89.69 points overall, taking first place for the Scholastic Regional A competition. We spoke to Autumn Gipe, 11, on JV guard about how she felt when she found out about the teams win, Gipe said, “I was shocked, because last year our team did not do so well, so I just felt a lot of shock just like the rest of my teammates felt in the moment." Despite their doubts, JV was able to pull off a remarkably successful season and win overall.

The Varsity guard’s season is not over, but this competition helped them move up in the standings for the World competition. Also, at the competition at Tate high school on April 1, 2023, they scored 87.38 points overall in the Scholastic A area of the competition. After the competition we caught up with Marley Mayo, 11, a member of the Pace’s Varsity guard about how she felt about her group’s win overall. Mayo said, “We all felt proud of ourselves and our ability to perform the best show we could because, it did take 6 months to prepare for this show”. Despite all they faced this season they were able to pull off an amazing show and overall, both teams did outstanding in their respective competitions and brought immense pride to Pace High school.
